Day 13 of the 119th Psalm, verses 97-104.
“Mem
“97 Oh how I love Your Law! It is my meditation all the day.
“98 Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me.
“99 I have more understanding than all my teachers, for Your testimonies are my meditation.
“100 I understand more than the aged, for I keep Your precepts.
“101 I hold back my feet from every evil way, in order to keep Your Word.
“102 I do not turn aside from Your rules, for You have taught me.
“103 How sweet are Your Words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
“104 Through Your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.”
– Psalm 119:97-104
THE BREAKDOWN
Verse 97: When you love something/someone, you’ll want to spend all day with it.
Verse 98: Wisdom is defined as having experience, knowledge, and good judgment. All of God’s commandments are good. Knowing the commandments gives us the knowledge to make good judgments. It stands to reason that those who keep the commandments would be wiser than those who don’t know or keep them.
Verse 99: All of the knowledge in the world is nothing compared to the knowledge of God. Those who meditate on the things of God will be more knowledgeable than those who don’t. As Yeshua asked, “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?” That would include the knowledge of the world.
Verse 100: The same theme continues. Age may bring wisdom and understanding, but one who keeps God’s commandments has more understanding than these.
Verse 101: By knowing and keeping God’s Word, we will keep our feet from following evil.
Verse 102: When God teaches you His rules, and you Love Him, you will not turn from His rules.
Verse 103: The Words of God are sweeter than anything.
Verse 104: Knowing God’s Law brings understanding. Knowing what God hates will cause us to hate those things as well.
Lord, give me the understanding of Your Words so I can walk in them. Give me wisdom to live according to Your ways. Teach me to hate the things that you hate. Amen.
Shalom.
