Teshuvah, Day 26

Day 18 of the 119th Psalm, verses 137-144.

“137 Righteous are You, O YHWH, and right are Your rules.
“138 You have appointed Your testimonies in righteousness and in all faithfulness.
“139 My zeal consumes me, because my foes forget Your Words.
“140 Your promise is well tried, and Your servant loves it.
“141 I am small and despised, yet I do not forget Your precepts.
“142 Your righteousness is righteous forever, and Your Law is true.
“143 Trouble and anguish have found me out, but Your commandments are my delight.
“144 Your testimonies are righteous forever; give me understanding that I may live.”
– Psalm 119:137-144

THE BREAKDOWN

Verse 137: God’s rules are right because He is righteous.

Verse 138: God is righteous and faithful. Therefore, His testimonies would be established in righteousness and faithfulness.

Verse 139: Oh, that we would have consuming zeal to teach people God’s Words, even our foes.

Verse 140: God’s faithfulness has been tested and never fails. What’s not to love about that?

Verse 141: Another verse proclaiming that persecution won’t keep us from God’s Law.

Verse 142: The axiom that embodies the 119th Psalm. He is always righteous and His Law is always true.

Verse 143: We can take delight in His commandments even when trouble comes our way.

Verse 144: Even His testimonies are righteous. The witnesses of His Works declare His righteousness. There is life in understanding that.


Lord, give me zeal to pray for those who forget or disregard Your Law. You are always faithful and Your promises stand firm. Give me understanding so that I may have life. Amen.
