We’re halfway through the Days of Teshuvah!
Day 12 of the 119th Psalm, verses 89-96.
“Lamedh
“89 Forever, O YHWH, Your Word is firmly fixed in the heavens.
“90 Your faithfulness endures to all generations; You have established the earth, and it stands fast.
“91 By Your appointment they stand this day, for all things are Your servants.
“92 If Your Law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.
“93 I will never forget Your precepts, for by them You have given me life.
“94 I am Yours; save me, for I have sought Your precepts.
“95 The wicked lie in wait to destroy me, but I consider Your testimonies.
“96 I have seen a limit to all perfection, but Your commandment is exceedingly broad.”
– Psalm 119:89-96
THE BREAKDOWN
Verse 89: God’s Word is firmly fixed and does not change. Malachi 3:6 says that YHWH does not change, and Hebrews 13:8 says that Yeshua is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Verse 90: God’s faithfulness doesn’t change through the generations. He is faithful to His Word and will not fail to keep His promises.
Verse 91: This is a continuation of the previous two verses, which speak of God’s Word being firmly fixed and the earth standing fast. Young’s Literal Translations (YLT) says, “According to Thine ordinances, They have stood this day, for the whole are Thy servants.” Everything God commanded works to this day because they serve Him.
Verse 92: Since we know the Law defines sin, as Paul said in Romans 7 about coveting, those who don’t delight in God’s Law will be afflicted through the punishments for sin and will perish that way.
Verse 93: A promise to never forget God’s Law because it brings life.
Verse 94: God will save those who obey His Word.
Verse 95: Another promise that persecution will not keep the writer from the testimonies of God.
Verse 96: An interesting way to say that God’s commandments are even more perfect than perfection.
Lord, I know that you do not change. Your Word doesn’t change. Help me understand Your ways and live according to Your promise of life. Amen.
Shalom.
