Teshuvah, Day 11

Day 3 of the 119th Psalm, verses 17-24.

“17 Deal bountifully with Your servant, that I may live and keep Your word.
“18 Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Your Law.
“19 I am a sojourner on the earth; hide not Your commandments from me!
“20 My soul is consumed with longing for Your rules at all times.
“21 You rebuke the insolent, accursed ones, who wander from Your commandments.
“22 Take away from me scorn and contempt, for I have kept Your testimonies.
“23 Even though princes sit plotting against me, Your servant will meditate on Your statutes.
“24 Your testimonies are my delight; they are my counselors.”
– Psalm 119:17-24

The Breakdown

Verses 17-20: The writer is declaring his longing to keep God’s Law and learn the wonderous things therein.

Verses 21-22: The writer reminds us of the rebuke for those who wander from God’s Law and mentions how he lives in obedience.

Verse 23: No matter what, the writer will meditate on God’s Law.

Verse 24: God’s Law is our delight and should be counsel for us. As Paul told Timothy, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16).


Lord, show us the wonderous things in Your Law that we may take delight in them. Keep always meditating on Your commandments. Amen.
