Jesus said not to judge or else we would be judged. Should we judge others? Not unless you judge yourself first.
Matthew 7:1 is used a lot to tell us that we shouldn’t judge others. Read through verse six and you’ll see that Yeshua is teaching us HOW to judge others. But I want to take us to a different passage. Romans 2-1-4.
“Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another, you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. 2 We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. 3 Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you presume on the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?”
– Romans 2:1-4
Yesterday, we read that we are to confess our sins. It seems part of human nature to compare ourselves to others when we are in an uncomfortable situation such as thinking of the wrong things we have done, and how we have sinned against God. Don’t fall into that trap. These days of teshuvah are for you, to examine yourself to see if there is any wrong in you. Paul says that if we pass judgment on others when we have done the same things, God will not take that lightly. Yeshua said in Matthew 7:5 to remove the log in your eye so you can see clearly how to remove the speck in someone else’s eye. But again, we are not here today to think of others. Examine Yourself, today and for the remainder of the forty days.
Lord, show us the logs in our eyes so we can remove them to see clearly how to follow Your Word. Amen.
Feel free to read through Psalm 27 again today.
